Welcome Mission MIFA-at-a-Glance History The MIFA Store Tours

MIFA at-a-Glance

  • Shortly after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., MIFA was founded in September 1968 by religious and lay leaders who saw a tremendous need for an organization that would bring all segments of the community together for a common cause: to help people out of poverty and into productive lives.
  • Today, MIFA is a preeminent social service organization that serves more than 60,000 people a year.
  • Our life-changing programs touch infants as young as 6 weeks old and senior citizens older than 100.
  • Programs address specific needs, from transitional housing for families who are homeless to nutrition to job opportunities for teens and much more.
  • MIFA partners with more than 200 congregations in West Tennessee. All major religions are represented through volunteers, donors and the organization's leadership.
  • More than 4,000 volunteers and 17,000 donors help keep our vitally important programs alive.
