MIFA Emergency Services Program

MIFA Emergency Services is there to help people get back on their feet after a setback or disaster. To be eligible for assistance or to be considered for emergency help with rent, mortgage or utilities:

• The household must not have received assistance within the previous two years.

• The applicant must document a temporary, unavoidable loss of income, such as an unpaid absence due to illness, a drastic reduction in pay (from $40/hr to $20/hr), a job lay-off, or a crisis such as a house fire.

• The loss or crisis must have occurred within the previous 90 days.

• In most cases, MIFA cannot pay an entire bill; recipients are responsible for paying or making arrangements on the remainder of their balance.
