Meals Program
Brighten the day of a homebound senior citizen by delivering hot meals Monday through Friday between 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Regular drivers and substitutes are needed. Some special Saturday deliveries are available. Contact Helen Ryan at 901-529-4513 or

Long-term Care Ombudsman Program

Advocate for the rights of nursing and care home residents through this program . If you live in Shelby, Fayette, Tipton or Lauderdale Counties, you can serve the elderly, our most vulnerable population. Teen Mentor
Help inner-city teens learn vital job skills such as being punctual, following directions and meeting deadlines. With your help, a teen can learn to balance school and work. Contact Harry T. Cash, III at 901-529-4509 or hcash@mifa.org

Housing Mentor

Help a family who is homeless with household budgeting, debt reduction, parenting skills, problem solving and other issues. With your help, family members will be equipped to handle whatever life holds in store when they move to permanent housing. Contact Kari Beth Dungan at 529-4515 or

Handyman Program
Put smiles on the faces of the elderly by building ramps and cleaning yards and homes. Skilled volunteers who can help with plumbing and carpentry projects are needed, but being skilled is not required. Contact Mary Claire Borys at 901-527-0208, ext 288 or

Senior Companion Program

Companions help peers age 60 and older with household tasks and other basic needs. In this role, companions find fulfillment by giving a frail person needed friendship and assistance. A small stipend is provided. Contact Dennis Moy at 901-529-4477 or

Housing Opportunities Child Care

Volunteers are needed to provide care for children while parents attend life skills classes at the Les Passees Center for Children and Families at 715 St. Paul Ave. Classes are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
