Individual donors

Individual donors are essential to MIFA’s success. Your gifts help us touch thousand of lives each year. And you can trust that your dollars make a difference - 86% of every dollar you give goes directly to MIFA’s programs.

Individuals can support MIFA in a variety of ways: annual gifts, tribute gifts, special campaigns, planned gifts, and in-kind gifts.

Thank you for considering a gift to MIFA. Your generosity allows us to help real people make real changes.  If you would like to designate your gift to a specific program, please contact Dot Gilbertson at (901) 529-4503 or dgilbertson@mifa.org.

Circle of Hope

Circle of Hope members are donors who give $1,000 or more annually. Annual gifts of $5,000 or more are specially recognized as gifts of the day. Circle of Hope members receive MIFA’s donor publications, as well as access to other MIFA news. Donate now or call Dot Gilbertson at 529-4503 to discuss your gift.

Stock gifts

You may choose make an annual gift of stock. A gift of appreciated securities can offer significant tax advantages. Transferring stock is simple, but during the busy days of December, please allow us up to a week to process your gift. You should always consult your financial advisor before making gifts of stock. If your stock is held in a brokerage account, please provide written instructions to your broker to transfer the shares to the MIFA account listed below.

Tribute gifts

Tribute gifts are a unique way of honoring family and friends. Make a charitable donation to MIFA to commemorate special events such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, achievements, and retirements. Tributes also service as meaningful expressions of sympathy. You and the individual you designate will receive an acknowledgment of your contribution without reference to the amount. Select your MIFA tribute today!

Special campaign gifts

Throughout the year, MIFA organizes several special campaigns to support our programs. March for Meals provides much-needed support for our MIFA Meals on Wheels program, which delivers approximately 2,300 meals to seniors daily. Other special campaigns include No-Go Gala in the spring, holiday cards, and special events such as Feed the Soul. Look for information on these special campaigns in your mailbox or on our website.

Lifetime giving

MIFA donors whose cumulative lifetime giving reaches the Benefactor level are members of our Benefactors Circle. These generous donors are recognized with plaques in the Norfleet Center of Philanthropy.

Planned gifts

There are a number of ways to leave a legacy to MIFA.

Giving through your will

Having provided for your loved ones, you may name MIFA as a beneficiary in your will. You may choose a Specific Bequest (you designate a specific dollar amount, specific percentage, or specific property); Residual Bequest (after all debts, taxes, and specific bequests the remaining amount will be transferred to MIFA); Contingent Bequest (you can ask that MIFA receive all or a portion of your estate under certain circumstances).

To make a bequest to MIFA, the following language will be helpful to your attorney:
“I give, devise, and bequeath to the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA) located at 910 Vance Ave., Memphis, TN 38126, the sum of _____(or otherwise describe the gift of property or some other tangible asset).”

If you have already included MIFA in your will or estate plan, please contact us. We realize that by making this special gift, you consider MIFA to be part of your family, and we want to keep you informed as to how your gift will be used and provide the opportunity for you to express your wishes.

Giving through life insurance

One of the simplest ways to make a significant contribution to MIFA is to give a life insurance policy to MIFA. You may give an existing policy that you no longer need, take out a new policy, or name MIFA as a beneficiary. This gift may provide valuable income and estate tax savings.

Giving though charitable trusts

A charitable remainder trust (CRT) allows you to establish a trust for the ultimate benefit of MIFA, while retaining the income generated by the assets. A CRT may help you eliminate capital gains taxes, reduce or eliminate estate taxes, improve lifetime cash flow, and provide for your heirs.

These are important decisions that require careful consideration. Please contact your attorney or financial adviser.
