Volunteers needed at MIFA for Ombudsman program
MIFA is seeking volunteers for its
Long-Term Care Ombudsman program.
Volunteer Ombudsman Representatives advocate for residents of nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, and residential care homes throughout Shelby, Tipton, Fayette and Lauderdale counties. Through weekly visits to facilities, volunteers will investigate complaints and monitor the residents’ quality of life, care and rights.
Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age and complete a 12-hour training and certification program slated for September 13, 14 and 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the MIFA headquarters, 910 Vance Avenue. Because the application process requires an interview, background and reference checks,
volunteers should apply no later than September 1.
To volunteer or for more information, contact Katie Earnest, volunteer coordinator, at
kearnest@mifa.org or (901) 527-0208, ext. 230.
