COOL students receive honors
Two MIFA COOL (College Offers Opportunities for Life) students will receive William H. Sweet Awards from Memphis City Schools. COOL is a college readiness and academic preparedness program providing higher education counseling, mentoring, life skills, ACT preparation, and assistance with the college admissions process.
Kiyah, a Central High School student, has worked hard to achieve and maintain a GPA at or above 3.8, in addition to perfect conduct. She was also the winner of MIFA’s 2011 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest, keynote speaker at MIFA’s Day of Reflection and Service, and a participant in MIFA’s COOL (College Offers Opportunities for Life) higher education preparation program.
Brandon Morris (pictured), a former MIFA Housing Opportunities resident, is a 10th-grade student at Hollis F. Price Middle College. Brandon enjoys drawing, reading, and writing. He will participate in a summer internship at Memorial Keepsakes and aspires to be a graphic designer.
