MIFA receives $1,000 from Meals on Wheels America
Subaru’s Share the Love event prompts recognition

Memphis, Tennessee (April 14, 2015) — MIFA has been awarded a $1,000 grant from Meals on Wheels America for participation in the 2014-2015 Subaru of America’s Share the Love event. The money will support MIFA’s Meals on Wheels program, helping to address the problems of hunger and isolation in our senior population.

As part of the national Share the Love effort, MIFA teamed up with Jim Keras Subaru for a pet food drive called Stuff the Trunk. The food was for the companion animals of MIFA’s Meals on Wheels homebound clients. Last December individuals visited Jim Keras Subaru on Covington Pike and stuffed their donated bags of dog and cat food in the trunk of a Subaru vehicle.

Following the pet food donation drive, Jim Keras Subaru employees came to MIFA to deliver the pet food.

The seven-year partnership between Meals on Wheels of America and Subaru of America, Inc. is designed to engage meals programs with their local Subaru retailers for increased community involvement.

Nearly 3,700 Shelby County seniors are food insecure. With the help of up to 100 volunteers each weekday, MIFA provides over 1,200 hot, nutritious lunches for seniors in their homes and at congregate meal sites. The service allows people to stay in their home and remain independent.

MIFA’s Meals on Wheels program has been awarded the highest possible accreditation conferred by Meals on Wheels America.
